Excessive Barking — How To Stop Barking Problems

What Causes Excessive Barking?

Your dog needs at least an hour and half of vigorous exercise every day to burn up his excess energy and prevent dog behavior problems. Get up earlier in the morning to walk your dog. If you don’t have the time, consider hiring someone to walk him during the day.
Avoid leaving your dog alone in the house or tied up in the yard for hours on end. Dogs need lots of attention, and they’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
If your dog barks at people or other dogs he can see through the window, try closing the drapes so he can’t see out.
Don’t try to calm an anxious barking dog by talking to him soothingly. All this does is reinforce the behavior. He’s getting your attention by barking, so don’t give it to him. Talk to him only after he’s quiet for a few seconds.
